Sycophancy is often treated as an undesirable interpersonal behavior involving flattery, excessive deference, or opportunistic agreement with powerful actors. This article argues that such a view is too narrow. Drawing on a critical qualitative literature review of organizational behavior, human resource management, leadership, business ethics, and public administration research published predominantly between 2020 and 2026, the article conceptualizes organizational sycophancy as a multilevel information-integrity and governance problem. It integrates research on ingratiation, impression management, opinion conformity, facades of conformity, employee silence and voice, psychological safety, organizational politics, exploitative and narcissistic leadership, bottom-line mentality, unethical pro-organizational behavior, and whistleblowing. The synthesis shows that power asymmetry can make agreement privately rational while making organizations collectively less intelligent. When dissent carries interpersonal or career costs and affirmation attracts access or reward, employees may filter adverse information, suppress disagreement, and display strategic conformity. Repeated reinforcement can transform episodic ingratiation into institutionalized sycophancy, producing false consensus, leadership overconfidence, weak error detection, compromised meritocracy, ethical silence, impaired learning, and bureaucratic accountability failures
