Impact of Social Media Utilization on Accessing Digital Information Resources in Festus Aghagbo Nwako Library

This study investigates the impact of social media utilization on accessing digital information resources in Festus Aghagbo Nwako Library, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka. Grounded in Diffusion of Innovations Theory and Uses and Gratifications Theory, the research explores how Facebook is utilized by the library and its influence on users’ access, awareness, and engagement with digital resources. A descriptive survey design was adopted, and data were collected from 150 respondents comprising students, staff, and faculty through structured questionnaires. Data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Findings revealed that Facebook is employed significantly to promote digital resources through updates, tutorials, live sessions, and interactive communication. Results further indicated that Facebook enhances user awareness, facilitates remote access, simplifies navigation of electronic resources, and strengthens user engagement, thereby increasing overall utilization. Demographic variables such as age and digital literacy were found to affect interaction with the library’s Facebook page. The study concludes that effective deployment of Facebook improves the visibility and accessibility of digital resources, ultimately supporting academic productivity. It recommends the adoption of structured content strategies, integration of instructional materials, and maintenance of prompt responses to user queries to optimize library services in the digital era
